On June 28, 2004, when the Chinese Vice-President Zeng Qinghong, who has closely followed Jiang Zemin to persecute Falun Gong practitioners over the past few years, was visiting South Africa, a Falun Gong practitioner was shot in a drive-by attack near Johannesburg. The incident immediately aroused attention and condemnation from the international community.
