From April 27 to 28, 2002, Washington State practitioners attended the Carnival, which is held once a year in Oak Harbor. The Mayor proclaimed January 6 to 12 as "Falun Dafa Week", and encouraged his residents to learn and practice the principles of "Truthfulness, Compassion, Tolerance". Practitioners introduced Falun Dafa and the persecution encountered by practitioners in China to residents and tourists using photo exhibits and exercise demonstrations.
