From 12 PM to 1:30 PM, a press conference was held at the Tiananmen Garden in front of the Chinese Embassy. Shean Lin from Birmingham, Alabama,read the statement on behalf of the practitioners participating in the hunger strike from five states,"Hunger Strike for Justice, Appeal for Peaceful Dialogue."

Canadian practitioner Connie Chipkar went to China to express her deep concern about the increased persecution and murder of Chinese Falun Gong practitioners and to appeal to the hearts of Chinese citizens. Wearing an "SOS" Falun Gong sash, she sang a song and extended her arms. She was arrested almost immediately and whisked away in a police van.

Published on 2/21/2002 At 11am on February 19, 2002, more than 30 Falun Gong practitioners from Washington DC gathered in front of the Chinese Embassy and held a press conference. They gathered to talk about the 60 practitioners from around the world who went to Beijing’s Tiananmen Square to appeal to the Chinese government peacefully but were detained and brutally treated. Twenty-five of these Western practitioners from eight states of the U.S. who had returned from China accepted interviews from CNN, AFP, Voice of America, Radio Free Asia, the Washington Times, World Journal and other media for more than an hour.

Published on 5/18/2002 On May 13, 2002, 34-year-old French citizen and Canadian permanent resident, Mr. Martial Bachoffner, unfolded a Falun Gong banner reading "Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance" in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, and loudly chanted "Falun Dafa is good." Afterward, Chinese authorities quickly deported him. Published on 6/17/2002 Reports from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania ---On June 11, 12, and 14, Falun Gong practitioners held press conferences at Riga, the capital of Latvia, at Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and at Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, respectively. Major local media including over 20 TV stations, radio stations and newspapers sent reporters to attend the press conferences. As a victim of the persecution, while carrying her 2-year-old daughter Ms. Dai Zhizhen told the story of her husband Mr. Chen Chengyong, who was beaten to death by the police simply for appealing for Falun Gong. She also talked about the story of her sister-in-law, who was sentenced to a forced labor camp for refusing to give up her cultivation practice. Dai’s father-in-law was not able to endure the emotional anguish and passed away shortly after his son’s death.

According to her observations, "The Hong Kong government provided no witnesses to prove the case. No one other than the police who carried out the arrest attested to any obstruction. The on-spot video footage taken during the incident showed that the walkway is fairly wide, spacious enough to let people pass without any obstruction." She said, "It is just as many people have observed, and it is indeed so, that the conviction of this trial was manufactured by the Beijing government."

They were there to protest that the Cambodian government had openly violated its international covenants and deported two Chinese Falun Gong practitioners who were under the protection of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. The United Nations’ Covenant stated that the Cambodian government has the responsibility of protecting the applicants, but instead they sent them back to China.

Published on 5/18/2003 Washington DC Dafa practitioners hold press conference to protest Jiang regime’s imprisonment of Charles Li and call upon everyone to help rescue him--Dr. Li was arrested on January 22 of this year immediately after he got off a plane in the Guangzhou Airport. He has been imprisoned since then. His friends and family overseas are not allowed to call him, and the U.S. Consulate official is only allowed 30 minutes to visit him every month. Beijing denied that his arrest was related to his belief in Falun Gong, but his Falun Gong books were taken away and he does not have freedom to practice Falun Gong, even though he is a U.S. citizen.
Published on 5/27/2003 At the time of the visit of the Chinese Prime Minister to Thailand on April 29, a Swedish Falun Gong practitioner, Mrs. Pirjo Svensson, was arrested in her home in Bangkok. Immediately upon her detention, the Swedish Embassy in Bangkok demanded an explanation from the Thai Authorities. Sweden also forwarded an official protest against the detention to the Government of Thailand, demanding Mrs. Svensson’s immediate release, and that she should not be expelled but should retain the right to remain in Thailand for the duration of her present visa. The Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Stockholm has also summoned representatives of the Embassy of Thailand to deliver the Swedish demands.

Pirjo wanted to appeal but the Thai Government refused to consider her appeal. Pirjo left Thailand in the evening of the 5 June. The Swedish ambassador took her to Bangkok airport personally.
Published on 6/7/2003 UK Falun Gong practitioners have sustained a 24-hour peaceful protest in front of the Chinese embassy for over one year now. The present appeal to support Charles Li using this relay hunger strike, as well as the lawsuit against Jiang, have added a historic meaning to the anniversary of the 24-hour peaceful protest. A Falun Gong practitioner who has participated in this peaceful protest from the beginning, said: "To maintain a constant presence outside of the Chinese embassy has not been easy, but those of us who regularly go there become only more determined to continue. Come rain or shine, sleet or snow, we will be there - this persecution is wrong and must end."

Published on 7/3/2003 San Francisco: Practitioners Hold Press Conference Regarding Two Chinese Officials Found Guilty by US Court of Crimes Against Humanity-At 1:30 p.m. on July 2, 2003, Falun Gong practitioners and an attorney from the CJA (Center for Justice & Accountability) held a press conference in front of the Federal District Court of the Northern San Francisco. The press conference announced that San Francisco Judge Edward M. Chen recently denied foreign sovereign immunity to former Beijing Mayor, Beijing Party Secretary Liu Qi and Deputy Governor of Liaoning Province Xia Deren. In a report Judge Chen submitted to the court, both Chinese officials were found guilty of overseeing the torture of Falun Gong practitioners. The press conference also informed the media of the lawsuit underway against former Chinese leader Jiang for genocide and crimes against humanity.

Published on 8/20/2003 Special News Bulletin: Jiang Zemin Sued for Genocide in Belgium--a criminal lawsuit charging the former Chinese Communist leader, Jiang Zemin with the crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and state directed torture, was submitted to federal prosecutors by six Falun Gong practitioners residing in Belgium. Two of Jiang’s senior-most accomplices, Luo Gan (the head of the Political and Legislative Affairs Committee) and Li Lanqing (the former director of the "610 office") are also named in the lawsuit.

Published on 12/25/2003 Japan: Yoko Kaneko holds press conference in Tokyo to reveal her experience in China-After she was arrested, Yoko Kaneko said that she had then sufferedall kinds of physical and mental torture in jail, labor camp, and a hospital designated by the Jiang regime to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. In labor camp, she and other practitioners were forced to attend brainwashing sessions, in which they were not allowed to sleep for prolonged time. Some were only allowed to sleep for about 1 or 2 hours, some were deprived of the right to sleep completely, some were even not allowed to sleep for more than 20 days. Besides this, the guards used all kinds of torture methods. Everyday from about 5am to 10pm, she was put to work to produce slave products. In such a grim environment, her health situation deteriorated quickly. Her blood pressure skyrocketed, she later lost her eyesight for quick a while. Because her arms were tied from the back for long time, even 1 month after her return to Japan, she still can’t raise them high up. Hers eyes are still very sensitive to lights.
