Published on 9/20/2000 Zhu Hang, Associate Professor of Department of Humanity and Social Sciences of Dalian University of Science and Technology, was arrested when practicing the Falun Gong exercises in a park on Aug. 30, 1999, charged with "disrupting social order with feudalistic superstition." When detained in the Dalian YaoJia Detention Center located in NanGuanLing, she went through unimaginable suffering, inhuman treatment, and torture.

She was tortured with the "Di Lao" (translated literally as the "prison in hell") device that held her unable to move. Furthermore, she was not allowed to use toilet or eat on her own. Because she did not want to make difficulties for other detained practitioners, and there was not enough food for everyone, she started a hunger strike. After 7 days, the authorities ordered several guards to force her to eat by pricking her mouth with spoons ruthlessly, which caused severe injury in her mouth. Later, they installed a pipe in her nose to feed liquid in her. She finally lost consciousness because of the torture, and was sent to the People’s No. 2 Hospital in Dalian City for recovery.

Published on 10/30/2000 Liu Yufeng, 64, was a resident of Xiaozetou Village of Songcun County, Wendeng, Shandong Province. He was sent to Wendeng Detention Center and brutally beaten for participating in a group practice at Dragon Hill in Wendeng in the morning of July 18, 2000. The bruises and wounds all over his body were too horrible to see. He died at 7:00 am on July 23, 2000. After Liu’s death, his children were furious and decided to keep the body from cremation as evidence to file a lawsuit and demand justice. His relatives and friends could hardly accept the sudden death of the healthy and heroic old man. The public was dignified seeing that the police had violated the law and used brutal torture on an defenseless elderly man. According to a reliable resource, the local government proposed to privately resolve the issue with 60,000 Yuan [~$7500]. They detained his wife and put close surveillance on his family members in order to avoid leaking the news. His children hired an attorney to file a lawsuit. The police went to "talk" with the attorney, and subsequently the attorney quitted. The following photos were taken after the autopsy done by legal medical experts.
