"Backing up an airplane:" Criminal cell leaders often use this persecution and torture method on practitioners on the instigation of policemen and jail guards. This torture requires practitioners to bend over while holding the legs straight. Then, with the feet close together, the arms are lifted to the highest position possible, with the hands touching the wall. If practitioners can’t bear it, the prisoners in the cells and designated torturers will gang up to beat them.

The prison guards often uses this method to beat and torture practitioners, and force them to give up their beliefs. Vicious people use electric batons, rubber tubes, and "wolf teeth" sticks to beat practitioners. The insults and beatings given to female practitioners are often even more brutal.

"Dead Person’s Bed" or "Big Letter Board:" This torture method is what I myself have witnessed. It is used to torture practitioners who are on a hunger strike to protest and who do not yield to any unreasonable demands. Practitioners who are on hunger strike are tied to the "Dead Person’s Bed" so that their hands and feet can’t move. Jail guards and prisoners force-feed them using the " feeding through the nose" method. Many practitioners have lost their lives from this torture.

Published on 11/23/2001 In order to prevent practitioners from doing exercises or whenever practitioners do not obey the unreasonable requests of the guards, the policemen in the detention centers and forced labor camps apply this inhumane torture to persecute practitioners. Usually, this position causes extreme pain in just 20 minutes. However, the policemen handcuff practitioners this way for as long as 4 hours.

Published on 11/23/2001 "Being confined in a solitary compartment" is one of the torture methods applied to brutally persecute practitioners.Except for a small barred door, all openings are tightly sealed. No light comes in. Practitioners are locked up in these small cells like that because they are determined to tell the truth and do not yield to the unreasonable requirements. Sometimes they are locked up this way for 120 days. They are mentally and physically tortured.

As one’s exposed fingernail beds are extremely sensitive, the hammering process causes an excruciating pain that one cannot even begin to describe. The police begin by hammering the bamboo stick into just one finger. She has resisted the vicious persecution. For two months, she refused to wear the labor camp uniform, since she is not a criminal and did not commit any crime. She was handcuffed at all times. The camp officials locked her inside the interrogation room, and assigned four people to watch her every day. Labor camp guard Li Jirong forbade her to sleep, take a bath, wash her face and brush her teeth, or use the toilet. At each meal, she was only given a plain and tasteless steamed cornmeal bun made of only corn flour and water [no salt, sugar and oil are added] and some pieces of pickled vegetables. She was beaten every day, so her nose often spurted blood, her eyes were black and blue and swollen, and she had bruises all over her body.

Published on 1/17/2004 Jinzhou District Dentention center used many crude torture methods to torment practitioners. One of them, which is called "running," consisted of a square metal frame about 1 x 1 foot in dimension, with 4 handcuffs made of heavy steel at the four corners. Two are used to shackle the hands and the other two are for the feet. If one of the handcuffs moves, it will twist or pinch a practitioner’s wrists and ankles, causing extreme pain. The practitioners had to bend over by almost 90 degrees when walking, with the hips up and face down. They were only able to look at the ground right in front of their feet. Every step taken was only about 3 inches at a time with their flesh twisted and it was very painful. (See illustration)

Published on 5/21/2004 This is another very cruel torture commonly used by forced labor camps and brainwashing classes on Falun Dafa practitioners who refuse to give up their belief. First, the practitioner’s legs and feet are tied tightly together, with the arms and hands tied behind the back. Then the practitioner’s neck and legs are tied together very tightly, almost causing suffocation. The whole body is then pushed under the bed (see illustration), and several people sit on top of the bed, forcibly pressing down on the practitioner’s back, almost causing the spine to fracture. This torture often results in severe injuries.
Published on 5/21/2004 This is one of the commonly used tortures inflicted by labor camps and brainwashing classes. Sometimes the police forbid the practitioner to use the toilet, and hang the practitioner upside down to humiliate him or her.
Published on 5/21/2004 Drawings of Torture Techniques -- Nos. 1 - 7. This torture is commonly used by police hospitals, detention centers, and forced labor camps on Falun Dafa practitioners who refuse to give up their belief. The practitioner’s lower body is tied onto the sides of a bed, with his hands intentionally handcuffed on the sides of the bed above or below, to the extreme, so there is no way to move. Some Falun Dafa practitioners are tortured like this for one week or several weeks, with some even tortured like this for as long as four months.

This torture prevents the practitioner from changing position even a bit, let alone turning the body. After a long period of time, the muscles are damaged, the mind becomes uneasy, scabies grow, and the practitioner experiences extreme pain.

We have plenty of ways to deal with you!" Damaging force-feeding is not the same as the normal medical feeding procedure that is used to save lives. The persecutors in China use it as a cruel torture to force practitioners to give up their belief. Hence, this force-feeding is very brutal. According to reports, there have been up to 100 practitioners who died as a result of brutal force-feedings administered by non-professional persons (including prisoners), and a large number of practitioners experience serious side effects from these force-feedings.

In this torture, the head is bent down until it cannot go down any further, while the hands are pulled up and held up at the highest point against the wall. The practitioner is forced to hold this position unchanged for a long time period (more than 10 hours). This torture forces the practitioner to sit for a long time, and he/she can not take care daily needs such as walking, standing, using the bathroom, or eating. This torture typically results in muscle damage, swelling of the hands and feet, sleeplessness, uneasiness, and even mental collapse. It is very hard to endure. All persons who went through this torture found it too painful to talk about.
Published on 5/26/2004 Drawings of Torture Techniques -- No. 8: Burning Practitioners With Red Hot Objects. One of the torture methods used in interrogation rooms, forced labor camps and brainwashing centers under the Public Security System is to use extremely hot objects to burn Dafa practitioners’ bodies.

Police use lit cigarettes to burn practitioners’ faces, often leaving black scars on their faces. Some of the most vicious police have deliberately burned the faces of beautiful young female practitioners, thus permanently disfiguring them.

This form of torture includes using cigarette lighters to burn practitioners’ faces (even to burn their eyebrows off), their chins, hands, thighs, or private parts.

At other times, specially made iron bars are heated in burning charcoal until they become red-hot. They are then used to burn practitioners’ chests and thighs.

They brought in two water-filled rectangular buckets. Each bucket contained about 45 to 55 pounds of water, and they used a long cotton string to tie the two buckets together and put them over the practitioner’s shoulder. After a while, they used water to dampen the string used to tie the buckets. Since the weather was very hot, a while later the string would attach to the skin. The two policemen then each yanked one bucket back and forth over the practitioner’s shoulder. After several yanks, the skin on the shoulder and neck would be torn. The body would be exhausted from supporting the two buckets. After a while, the hands would swell up as well. About 30 minutes later, the practitioner’s two arms would become numb and lose feeling. After such a torture, the arms would go dead and not be able to carry anything. After this torture, it usually takes at least half a month for the practitioners to be able to carry things again with their hands. Often it takes half a year until the arms can gradually recover.
