Published on 6/25/2003 Assailants Commit A Hate Crime, Beating Falun Gong Practitioners. Shortly before 10:00p.m. on June 23, 2003, an incident in which Falun Gong practitioners were maliciously assaulted occurred outside Yidong Restaurant (88 Palace) in New York City’s Chinatown. A group of people led by chairman Liang Guanjun of Chinese Associations General in New York City assaulted several Falun Gong practitioners. The practitioners later filed police reports at the local precinct.

While Liang Guanjun and others were hosting a banquet in the restaurant for Wang Yingfan, the departing UN ambassador from China, Falun Gong practitioners were distributing truth-clarifying literature and materials to passersby outside the restaurant, in hopes that high-level Chinese officials could forward Falun Gong practitioners’ requests to the Chinese government to stop persecuting Falun Gong. The practitioners were cursed, surrounded and assaulted by a gang led by Liang Guanjun.

Published on 6/30/2003 On June 26, 2003, Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference at a Holiday Inn to clarify the truth about the assault directed by Liang Guanjun outside the Yidong Restaurant against Falun Gong practitioners on the evening of June 23, and to correct many media organizations’ false reports. They also displayed at the press conference enlarged photos, and showed a piece of video filmed by the media.
