Seconds after she started to practice Falun Gong, she was arrested and abducted to Tiananmen Square Police Station. In the station, she was punched at face, kicked, and eventually severely tortured for refusing to reveal her identity. The torture resulted in her two thighs black and purple with an area bigger than two palms. Her shanks and kneels were full of black and purple spots as well.

This device is used for the most severe criminals in Chinese prisons and cause severe pain. Her hands and legs were left with deep cuts and bruises after being locked to Di Lao for two days. Arrested on August 30, 1999, she was chained at about 11 pm on September 8 to the window bars in the hallway, and forced to stand there until 8pm the next day, for a total of 21 hours. In the evening of September 9, she was chained back to back with another practitioner. They were forced to stand until 8pm of the 10th, then were separated and individually chained with their hands cuffed in the back until 9 am of the 14th when she was forced to work with handcuffs removed until 9 pm that night, then chained again. This went on until she was released on 15th at noontime. Her hands have obvious scars as shown in the photo.

Published on 1/15/2001 In November, 2000, a practitioner went to Beijing to appeal and he was eventually caught by the police and sent to the Detention Center in Miyun County. One day, he used a piece of cloth from the edge of the bathroom sink to wipe his hands, and then washed this piece of cloth clean. Upon taking a closer look, he saw that the cloth was the top part of a T-shirt. Its front was printed with the words "Falun Dafa", and its back printed with "Zhen-Shan-Ren".
The T-shirt was torn apart, and the bloodstains on the top part were still clearly visible (see photo). It turns out that the T-shirt was worn by a practitioner who was detained here.

I struggled to get free and ran down the street. He chased after me on his bicycle, and beat me fiercely with a rubber baton. I did not hit back. I told him, "Falun Gong teaches people to treasure virtue and be kind. We are not bad people...." But he hit me even harder without restraint. Bearing the sharp pain, I said, "Don’t do this to Falun Gong practitioners. We follow ’Truth, Compassion, Tolerance’, which is the principle of the universe. You will be punished for committing evil." He clearly couldn’t tell good from bad. He bluffed and blustered, "My superior has said not to let go of any Falun Gong practitioner. Today, I will either kill you and throw your body into the city canal, or take you to the police substation." I had no hatred. I kept asking him to be good. Facing such a thug, I wanted to run away. But I couldn’t succeed.

This thug was in his 30s, about 1.65 meters tall, and quite strong. He brutally hit me for over an hour, bringing me to the verge of death. There were about a dozen passersby who came to watch during that time. He then shouted, "She is a Falun Gong practitioner. She is an active counterrevolutionary. If I beat her to death, it will count as nothing." No passerby dared to stop, and hastily left. I had heard policemen say in the past, "Jiang Zemin has ordered, ’Beating Falun Gong members to death is free from legal responsibility. Their deaths will be counted as suicides.’"

At that time, I couldn’t believe that policy was true. Right now, this is the brutal reality. It is darker than any mafia plot. I was beaten to the ground and could not get up. Two of my front teeth fell out. I had many wounds on my head. My whole body turned black from the bruises and became swollen. It felt like my bones had fallen apart. Then he gave full play to his brutish nature. He hit me fiercely with his baton on my right ear and temple. I then lost consciousness. After I lost consciousness, he dragged me under the bridge and ripped off my pants. He raped me. After that, he forced his rubber baton into my vagina using his full strength, and then sat on me. When I regained consciousness and a little strength, I shouted as loud as I could, "Help! Get this rogue!" Yet, he had no remorse or fear. I stated that I would sue him at the police substation, he then fearfully ran away on his bicycle.

With the complicity of Jiang Zemin, these vicious policemen have completely lost their moral conscience. However, good will be rewarded with good, and evil will be rewarded with evil. These lawless and vicious policemen will be brought to justice in the near future.

He began practicing Falun Gong in June of 1998 and was illegally arrested 4 times since Jiang Zemin banned Falun Gong in July 1999. He was repeated tortured by police and guards, forcing him to denounce Falun Gong. On June 2nd, three guards tortured him again. First they beat him and tried to force him to write "repentance statements." However, Tan did not say a word. Later, the guards tied him to a pillar. One guard heated up a rusted iron rod on an electric burner until the rod turned red, then he pressed the rod against Tan’s legs in over a dozen places while asking: "Do you still want to practice Falun Gong?" Then the guards dragged him back to his small cell and locked him in. He could not walk nor sleep because of the pain. Later, the guards ordered him to care for an orchard. The orchard was outside the range of the guards, so he escaped. Ater going through a series unbearable tribulations, he escaped to U.S. and was rescued to a hospital for treatment. Doctor diagnosed his wounds as 3rd degree of burns and Mr. Tang thereafter had received tremendous help from all circles of U.S.society. Tang told U.S. reporters: "The labor camp in Mainland China was like hell. While here, everyone is so nice to me. The difference is so huge." He is just one of the countless Falun Gong practitioners who have suffered inhumane persecution and torture. He also said that in China, there are still many, many other practitioners who have suffered even more than he did.

Published on 10/1/2001 Practitioner Li Meili (pseudonym) from Shuangcheng City, Heilongjiang Province was illegally detained in Shuangcheng City Detention Center on November 13, 2000 for going to Beijing to validate Dafa. In order to protest the illegal detention and to request an immediate release as an innocent person, she held a hunger strike. On the seventh day, Li was on the verge of death, so she was sent to the hospital. The detention center and the 610 office (which specializes in the persecution of Falun Gong) feared she might die, so they sent her home on December 25, 2000.

On the morning on January 30, 2001, officials from the 610 office and the director of Shuangcheng City Detention Center went to Li’s home, and by using the excuse of "needing to talk" with Li, they tricked her into leaving with them. They asked her if she would continue to practice Falun Gong, and Li answered, "I will practice." The next day, she was illegally sent to the Wanjia Labor Camp where she was brutally tortured.

At the Wanjia Labor Camp, in order to protest this unwarranted detention and to request an unconditional release, all practitioners that were in ’Group Seven’ held a hunger strike. The group leader, Wu Jinying, said they (the practitioners) were supposed to go to the cafeteria whether they wanted to eat or not, but none of the practitioners obeyed. Then, Wu ordered criminals to force practitioners’ to put their hands behind their backs, make them sit on stools and handcuff their wrists to the heat pipes. After the practitioners were fixed there and unable to move, they took away the stools, forcing them to remain squatting for over two hours. This is only one of the many methods that the Wanjia Labor Camp uses to abuse practitioners.

In this terrible environment, Li Meili developed scabies all over her body (as did other practitioners), to the point where she couldn’t even open her eyes. She fell unconscious a couple of times and her whole body became covered with ulcers that seeped pus. There was not a single place on her body that was intact, and even the slightest movement led to excruciating pain. Li was compelled to stay in bed and relied entirely on other practitioners to take care of her. Even with her being in such a serious condition, the vicious policemen at the Wanjia Labor Camp didn’t even allow Li’s family to visit her during that over four-month period of detention. This broke their hearts. In addition, they would not let her family send her clothes, or any other things. It was not until August 28, 2001, the day the malicious police realized that Li was indeed going to die, that they sent her to a hospital. The hospital only kept her for one day and then sent her back to the "610 office" in Shuangcheng City the following day, while she was unconscious. At that time, there was no one in the office, so Li was then sent to the street administrative office where she was neglected. In the end, she was returned home by workers from the street office. Her whole family was heartbroken upon seeing her in such a miserable state. Her mother-in-law said, "What crime did my daughter-in-law commit? Should she be tortured to this state and then sent home when she is nearly dead?"

The street office pressured Li’s family to hide the news from the public and especially to not show her picture to practitioners. Because there was no place for her family to turn to for justice they began to prepare for Li’s funeral [in the case of her death] while bearing the feelings of sorrow and rage in their hearts. This picture was taken soon after her release and shows the widespread scabies on her body.

The horrifying Wanjia Labor Camp is only one among many vicious Labor Camps in China and Li Meili is just one of thousands and thousands of Falun Gong practitioners that have been tortured by Jiang Zemin’s criminal followers. We hope people with kind hearts around the world will pay attention to this.

Published on 7/2/2002 On both evenings of the past weekend (June 29 and 30), Houston Falun Gong practitioners encountered harassment and assault when they sat-in in front of the Chinese Consulate appealing for Falun Gong.

At 10 AM on Saturday, June 29, Falun Gong practitioners in Houston started their weekend of peaceful appealing in front of the Chinese Consulate. They practiced the exercises and sent forth righteous thoughts with high frequency. In the evening, most practitioners left. Four practitioners still stayed there to continue the appeal, displaying banners reading: "Take Action, Stop the Killing in China", "SOS, Urgent Rescue Falun Gong Practitioners Persecuted in China", "China: Stop Persecuting Falun Gong Practitioners", "Falun Dafa -- Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance".

Around 10:05 PM, while practitioners silently sat on their cushions with their eyes closed to send forth righteous thoughts, someone threw eggs at them from a passing car. A male practitioner’s hands and neck were hit. He had seen that it was a black car. A female practitioner’s legs were also hit, but the practitioners were not affected and they continued to sit silently sending forth righteous thoughts. However, the car turned around and came back. The people inside the car again threw eggs at the practitioners. The male practitioner’s legs were covered with broken eggs. Some eggs hit the ground around practitioners. Not being moved at all, practitioners kept sitting in lotus position silently all along and sent forth righteous thoughts.

After 10:10PM, the practitioners opened their eyes and saw that there were at least a dozen broken eggs around them. They immediately reported it to the local police and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation). The FBI recorded the details over the phone. The local policemen also came to look at the scene, and practitioners described the details about what had happened. They also explained to the police why they were at the Chinese Consulate peacefully appealing for Falun Gong, as well as the situation of the ruthless persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China. Practitioners also gave the policemen some truth-clarifying materials. Policemen recorded details about what had happened. Another practitioner who had heard the news came over to photograph the scene. He also told the police about the incident he had witnessed personally at the "Garden Corner" park in Chinatown in San Francisco, where a group of hired hooligans beat Falun Gong practitioners. The thugs had been hired by the Chinese Consulate.

After the incident, a practitioner went to a hotel opposite to the Consulate to use the phone. Upon learning what had happened, the hotel front desk clerk expressed his deep concern and warm support to the practitioner. Seeing the broken eggs spattered on the practitioners’ bodies and the surrounding ground, some passersby expressed their concerns and sympathy. A kind-hearted man fetched towels from his car to help practitioners wipe up the mess. They all found it hard to understand why the peaceful practitioners encountered such harassment. Since Falun Gong has been suppressed in China, Houston practitioners have often held peaceful appeals and practiced the exercises in front of the Chinese Consulate. Many Houston citizens have witnessed the practitioners’ peaceful and serene demeanor. People have seen the manifestation of Falun Dafa and Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance from these practitioners.

Throughout Sunday, June 30, practitioners continued to sit-in in front of the Consulate. In the evening, 13 practitioners stayed to send forth righteous thoughts. Taking advantage of practitioners closing their eyes to send forth righteous thoughts, two suspicious men about 30-40 years old watched every practitioner’s face carefully and then left. Around 9:28 to 9:30 PM, the practitioners were again egged from a passing car. A few eggs hit a male practitioner’s chest and neck. His neck turned red after being hit. Another female practitioner’s knee and calf were hit. She raised her head and saw that it was a black car, again. Practitioners reported this second incident to the police and the FBI. Policemen quickly came over to personally look at how hard the practitioners were hit and recorded the details.

Published on 7/22/2002 In April 2002, four or five police broke into the home of Zang Yuxia, a Falun Gong practitioner in Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province and began to search her home without a warrant. When they failed to find anything valuable to confiscate, the police forced Zang Yuxia into the police car without even giving her a chance to put her shoes on. They also kidnapped her child, a non-practitioner who was home for the weekend. The police kept Zang Yuxia and her child under police custody and tortured them using all conceivable means. In just one month, Zang Yuxia’s face became deformed from the torture. In addition, she had such a high fever that she remained unconscious for a very long time. Published on 7/29/2002 Wu Lingxia is a steadfast practitioner. She went to Beijing twice to validate Dafa. After being kidnapped and having her money extorted from her, the lawless police often went to her home to harass her. Her husband was unable to withstand the police’s frequent harassment and felt anxious and afraid all day long. He ended up divorcing his wife. Wu Lingxia and her young child left Changchun City and went back to her hometown of Shuangyashan City, Heilongjiang Province.

After returning home, refusing to give up practicing Falun Gong, local police repeatedly arrested her where they illegally interrogated her and extorted money from her.

In May 2001, When Wu Lingxia went to visit a fellow practitioner, she was reported and arrested again. One month after she was detained in the Shuangyashan Detention Center, she was transferred to the Xigemu Forced Labor Camp in Jiamusi City, on July 2. Unlawful imprisonment caused her to suffer tremendously both in mind and body. In the end, she was sent back home, diagnosed as having a liver problem that resulted in severe edema in her abdomen.

Published on 12/14/2002 Gong Zhihui, female, 37 years old, is from Miyi County, Panzhihua City, Sichuan Province. Gong went with a few practitioners to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and she was jailed at the Beijing Dongcheng District Detention Center. When she refused to be photographed, the police pulled her hair and banged her head against the wall. During her detention, Gong went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution and was kicked, punched, and force-fed with food and medicine. The guards usually did not do it themselves. They ordered the criminals to pinch her tendons and force-feed her while plugging her nose. They were also responsible for the multiple bruises on her arms and legs. Li Jinghua, female, 34, used to live in Lizhangzi Village, Zhaoduba Township, Longcheng District, Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province. In 1996, after she started to practice Falun Gong, her chronic illness was gone and she regained her health. Her husband joined the Falun Gong practice group and also experienced great health improvements. Her family had a harmonious life, but it didn’t last very long, as Jiang’s evil regime started the persecution against Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. As her family’s life was disrupted, with full trust in the rule of law, Li Jinghua made a decision to go to Beijing to tell the leaders of the country the facts about Falun Gong. She intended to share, through her own personal experience, the benefits of practicing cultivation. Because the authorities prohibited Falun Gong practitioners from buying train tickets to Beijing, Li and a fellow practitioner made the trip by bicycle. Later they were arrested and sent back to a local detention center. The authorities confiscated the family’s TV set, a cassette recorder and materials about Falun Dafa from her house. Because Li refused to renounce her belief in Falun Dafa, the authorities detained her on several different occasions and then abducted her to Xidayingzi for brainwashing. After one month in detention she still refused to compromise, so the authorities illegally sentenced her to one year of forced labor in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

The Masanjia Forced Labor Camp is a place where Falun Gong practitioners suffer all kinds of tortures because they steadfastly refuse to betray their own conscience by renouncing their belief in Falun Dafa. Under the influence of such an oppressive environment, Li Jinghua was worn down after being severely abused both physically and mentally. In the Second Section, she was beaten because she continued to practice the Falun Gong exercises.

In January 2000 Li was transferred to the First Female Section for hard labor, where she was forced to make clothes, working under a very high requirement for quality and quantity. Laboring long hours every day and being cursed or beaten over failing to finish the required quotas, Li was under extreme mental pressure. The concentration camp authorities set Li’s regular work hours as from 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., with overtime lasting up to 3 a.m. when it was necessary to complete a certain quota. On one job destined for overseas export, she was forced to work continuously with no rest for thirty-six hours straight, missing two regular meals with no extra meals for overtime between the regular shifts. During the course of this grueling labor, for breakfast and dinner Li was only given a partially cooked steamed bun and a pickle, while lunch was just a small amount of rice. She was kept sandwiched between two inmates, who monitored her closely twenty-four hours a day, even when she went to the bathroom or ate meals. Li was forced to sleep between two inmates at night, in between two single beds.

In the middle of June 2000, the labor camp authorities ordered the practitioners in the First Female Section to halt their work in order to undergo brainwashing. More than twenty practitioners were forced to sit bunched up next to each other on benches in hot muggy weather, from 6:30 a.m. to 12 a.m., while the guards took them out individually for brainwashing. Because some practitioners refused to compromise, the guards beat them fiercely. Li and her fellow practitioners were surrounded by the guards’ cursing, the screams of the victims, and the sound of electric batons hitting flesh.

On July 6, 2000, Li Jinghua was detained in the First Female Section for brainwashing. Every day the collaborators [former practitioners who have turned against Dafa under intense pressure and torture] tried to brainwash her until midnight. To take away her freedom, they followed her wherever she went and forced her to eat her meals in her cell rather than in the cafeteria. After twenty more days of brainwashing, Li was physically injured and mentally worn down, but she still refused to compromise. Then the vicious policeman Zhang Yan forced her into an isolated small cell, where she was forced to remain in a bent over position for a long period of time. Meanwhile, two collaborators tortured her. Li Jinghua had to eat and relieve herself in the cell. As it was during the intense heat of summer, she suffered from the suffocating heat and countless mosquito bites. The collaborators made her hold this posture for seventy-two hours without sleeping, and cursed or beat her whenever they saw her moving even a little bit. After three days of torture, she was exhausted and looked like a shadow of her former self, but still she didn’t compromise. Utterly infuriated, the guards shocked her hands, feet, chest and neck with high-voltage electric batons. Witnessing her skin and flesh burned black under the electric shock, some onlookers couldn’t help but shed tears for her. As Jinghua was not in her right mind from this continual torture, the guard Zhang Yan forced her to write a guarantee statement to renounce Falun Gong. But after reading it, Zhang felt that this statement was not sincere and forced her to make a handwritten copy of the collaborators’ slanderous statements before releasing her from the small isolation cell. Knowing that Li’s statement was written against her own will, the guards had the collaborators continue to brainwash her.

After coming out from the small cell and having a short break, Li Jinghua quickly regained her righteous mind. When she declared the "guarantee" to be invalid and stated her resolve to continue Falun Dafa cultivation, Zhang Yan beat her right way and imprisoned her in the small cell again, where two collaborators forced her to hold the "flying dove" position for over two hours, until she lost consciousness. They then dragged her back and reported to the guards, Yang Yu and Zhang Yan. Yang roared, "Since she was still alright after bending over for three days and three nights, how could she fall unconscious within two hours? Is she playing games with me?" Yang pinched and hit her. It took quite a while before Li Jinghua regained consciousness. The perpetrators shifted her back into the small cell again and forced her to hold the same position for four days and four nights. Because Li firmly refused to compromise, the guards were at their wit’s end, and transferred her back to the Second Squadron of the first group for more hard labor.

When Li was sent back to the first group, her fellow practitioners saw the scars caused by the electric shocks on her chest and neck. She developed a terrible complexion and fell into depression. Li was beaten whenever she practiced the Falun Gong exercises. When Li’s one-year term in the forced labor camp expired, the authorities extended it indefinitely because she refused to renounce her belief. She started a hunger strike to resist the persecution and refused to take part in any more slave labor, so the wicked police shocked her with electric batons. Every morning she was taken away somewhere and sent back at night. Upon coming back, she stared blankly and talked to nobody. Several days later she suffered a mental breakdown. She became incontinent and left her clothes just lying in a tub of water. Later she was sent to a mental hospital in Shenyang City. Her family had to take care of her there and pay the entire 4,000 Yuan medical fee [500 Yuan is the average monthly salary for an urban worker in China]. She was sent back home in May of 2001 and has still not recovered.

A good person has been tortured into a state of mental collapse under the tyranny of Jiang’s regime. Her happy family life has been destroyed by the persecution. Good people have been deprived of their fundamental human rights by Jiang’s dictatorship. They are tortured for speaking the truth and punished for being good people.

In the past two years, she conducted hunger strikes to protest persecution and was force-fed. The prison authorities also injected her with unknown drugs. Before she was detained, she weighed more than 120 pounds. She now only weighs about 45 pounds and lapses in and out of consciousness.
